BELGIAN VIEWERS MASSIVELY TUNE IN TO ‘POP QUIZ CHAMPIONS’ ON VTM

Last night’s primetime launch of the entertaining pop quiz competition format ‘Pop Quiz Champions’ on VTM in Belgium more than held its own in its key 8:30 pm timeslot. The fun and fast-paced format, hosted by a popular music-oriented Dutch presenter, Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, captured a solid 32% market share in the crucial 18-44 demo (Live +VOSDAL). This is an increase of 29% against the average VTM market share of 24,8% (18-44, Live + VOSDAL).

The format features die-hard pop music duos competing to become the next Pop Quiz Champions. Two celebrities help the teams on their way to ultimate music fame. During seven fast-paced and music-packed episodes of seven rounds each, the duos are bombarded with music related questions. Only the top four duos advance to the semi-final, followed by the top two duos going head-to-head in the entertaining final. All the while, the live music provided by an innovative two-person house band turns the competition into a full-on music extravaganza.

Says Be-Entertainment MD Gepke Nederlof, who represents the format internationally: “This format has an incredibly high play-along level for viewers tuning in. It’s partially a trip down memory lane but very fresh and new.”

‘Pop Quiz Champions’ was developed and produced by Panenka, the Belgian company known for such formats as ‘Taboo’ and ‘Switch’.
